Women in Construction Spotlight: Kelly Tellez

Senior Project Manager Kelly Tellez’s journey into construction began in 2000, when she switched gears from her upbringing on a dairy farm, diving into the construction and maintenance world. Kelly immersed herself in a mix of projects, big and small, mainly in retail and manufacturing. She spent 22 years dedicated to one company, honing her craft. Then, in 2022, she took on a new challenge, joining the Riley team as a Project Manager, ready for fresh opportunities.

Kelly credits a former boss for recognizing her potential and creating a role for her in the industry. Kelly soaked up every chance for growth, putting in long hours that paid off in career advancements, and solidified her love for the industry. Through perseverance and dedication, her career journey exemplifies the endless possibilities in the construction industry.

Outside of work, Kelly is all about giving back. Whether it’s volunteering for causes like Feed My Starving Children, ProHealth Care Walks for Cancer, or supporting homeless veterans, her generosity and compassion shine bright. From her years of experience, Kelly advises young women eyeing construction careers to jump in fearlessly, stating,

“Construction opens a wealth of opportunities for young women. No longer is this a man’s world. There are female carpenters, electricians, heavy equipment operators, welders, engineers, architects, project managers, construction accountants, marketing professionals, and powerful female construction executives. There is a great need for driven young people and no better time for a young woman to get her foot in the door.”

Kelly’s commitment to excellence and commitment to empowering women in construction inspire both colleagues and future professionals. Thanks, Kelly, for all you do at Riley Construction. We’re lucky to have you on our team!
