John Delavan

Vice President of Preconstruction

Since joining Riley in 2000, John’s dedication and skill have made a significant impact on the company’s growth. Perhaps most notably, John played an integral role in Riley’s establishment of a dedicated Preconstruction Services Department, developing a world-class staff and implementing its innovative technology and processes. John’s laser focus on accuracy, technology and efficiency have provided Riley’s preconstruction clients with unparalleled service. Under John’s leadership, the Preconstruction team launched a unique software integration system that syncs 3D (BIM) and 2D takeoff files to Riley’s Estimating and Project Management Accounting software, resulting in extremely accurate estimates.

John has over 20 years of construction and estimating experience in healthcare, industrial, educational, municipal, commercial and institutional markets. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from Purdue University.

In 2007, John became Riley’s first LEED-accredited employee (LEED AP). In 2010, he achieved the status of Certified Professional Estimator through the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) – one of only a handful in the state of Wisconsin. In 2011, John was the first person in the state of Wisconsin to be certified in Management of BIM (Building Information Modeling) through Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). He has served on the University of Wisconsin’s Sustainability Education Board. Through his community and church affiliations, John has been an active leader in the Boy Scouts of America for over 10 years.

“From the start, John has been off the charts when it comes to analytical and technological analysis of our projects,” said Dave Riley, Chairman of Riley Construction. “He has built our Preconstruction Department into an asset that provides clients with the greatest possible value during the pre-planning process.”
