Mark Toepfer, CRIS, MLIS Safety & Risk Manager

Mark joined Riley in 2004, and has over 30 years of experience in safety and risk management. He earned a B.A. from UW-Whitewater, with a science and education emphasis on occupational safety and health. His leadership of the firm’s safety initiatives is a key reason why Riley’s safety statistics are nationally recognized among the very best.

Growing up in Crystal Lake IL, Mark always had an interest in the construction business. “I was a head laborer for a large residential home builder during my college years. My grandpa was a jack-of-all-trades and my father was also very good at building,” he explained.  While he eventually gravitated toward the safety and risk aspect of the business, Mark still hones his carpentry skills today. “I enjoy working on wood projects, whether it’s a wooden deck or a wine rack. I enjoy watching buildings be constructed from drawings to completion.”

Mark and his wife have three adult children and two “awesome” dogs, Simon and Molly. In addition to the abovementioned woodworking, Mark enjoys hiking, fishing, camping, bird watching, boating, and kayaking with family and friends. He’s a regular volunteer for community causes such as the Boy Scouts and local food drives and other causes.

Fun Fact? “I did not want to go to college. I wanted to be a carpenter like my grandpa!”
